Incense Cedar(Calocedrus decurrens)Africa
The growth range of the species is rstricted to the USA, Mexico and Northern Baja California and is very similiar to Western Red Cedar. Much of the timber comes from western Oregon, through Nevada (the Lake Tahoe area) and California. Incense Cedar is commonly referred to white cedar, bastard cedar, California post cedar, and cedro incienso. Incense Cedar is browsed by deer and elk and bear eat the sapwood on young trees. The sapwood is a creamy white (and a delicacy to deer, elk, and bear), while the heartwood is light brown to light reddish brown. The heartwood has an aromatic, spicy odor, and is highly resistant to decay, even in the wettest of conditions. It has an unusually straight grain, and has high dimensional stability.
