Cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa) from South America

The growth range of the species is reported to include the Pacific seaboard areas of Mexico and Central America.

Cobolo is a member of the rosewood family. Throughout the world there are hundreds of different species of Rosewoods, including Bolivian Rosewood, Brazilian Rosewood, Cocobola, East Indian Rosewood, Honduras Rosewood, Kingwood, Nicaraquan Rosewood, Brazilian Tulipwood & Santos Rosewood.

This exotic and imported hardwood displays a range of colors including rich red, with orange and yellow streaks and zones. It is very hard, dense and heavy and has straight grain, which is sometimes interlocked and can be irregular and variable. It usually has a fine and uniform texture.
