Makore(Tieghemella heckelii)Africa
The growth range of the species is restricted to West Africa, including Sierra Leone to Cameroon, Gabon, and south to Cabinda; widely distributed in the high rain forests. Makore is commonly referred to Baku, Macore, Douka, and Ukola. The sapwood is usually 2-3 inches wide, and clearly demarcated; going from white to light pink. The Heartwood ranges in color from pink to red brown. Texture fine to medium with a generally straight grain sometimes with an attractive moire figure.
