Narra(Pterocarpus indicus)Southeast Asia
The growth range of the species is reported to include Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Southeast Asia, Australia, and the Solomon Islands. Its status in Indonesia and parts of Malaysia is officially classified as extinct, endangered, vulnerable, or rare. Narra is sometimes referred to Amboyna, Angsana, Nara, Narravitail, New Guinea Rosewood and is one of the more expensive native woods of Solomon Islands. Apart from its natural beauty, the wood is desired for its consistent grain rendering. Narra is an exotic and imported hardwood. The heartwood is light yellow to golden- brown to reddish-brown to a distinct red. The sapwood is white or pale straw, clearly defined. The texture is moderately fine to moderately coarse, grain is sometimes wavy and interlocked.
