Praduak, Tiger Grain(Pterocarpus marcocarpus)Africa
The growth range of the species is reported to include Widespread in Tanzania throughout the woodland in the coastal plain; in savannah woodlands and grasslands in Kilwa, Lindi, Morogoro, and Tabora; in Miombo savannah and in Miombo dry forests as scattered trees. It is found in the north to Lake Victoria. Praduak is also referred to as Burma Praduak and Burmese Rosewood. Praduak, when it curls (a term used to describe what happens to wood as it grows) looks like sand on the beach or river bottom with repeated ripples in the grain. The grain goes up and down causing the unusual look in the wood. This curlying is also called fiddleback or tiger grain. With heartwood that is dark brownish black in color with toothpick-like series of brown, black and white streaks, or checks.
